Feeding the Hungry and Homeless

  • Feeding the Hungry and Homeless

Based on a recent Census Bureau survey, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates that in the year 2000, 10.5 million American households—about 33 million people, including 20 million adults and 13 million children—were food insecure, meaning that they did not have access to enough food to meet their daily basic needs. Hunger in America has, and continues to be, a genuine problem for a significant part of our population, especially for the “hidden hungry”: single mothers, immigrants, the elderly who sometimes must choose between paying for prescriptions or eating, and the working poor who can barely stay ahead of rising costs, low wages and staggering rents.

Feeding the Hungry During Ramadan The month of Ramadan signals a time of reflection and self-deprivation, when a Muslim’s hunger pains remind them that although they need only endure their discomfort for a lunar cycle, there are others out there who suffer this pain every day of their lives.

MAS chapters are embarking on a series of activities and Iftars to feed the hungry and homeless during the month of Ramadan, and beyond.

We need your support to feed those who feel the hunger all year long that the Muslim feels only one month of the year.
