- Back to School Campaign 2008
Not every child can start the school year with brand new clothing, carrying a fashionable never-before-used lunchbox, and sporting a spanking new backpack slung over their shoulder. Many do not even have a pencil or paper when the teacher says to “begin writing”!
For underprivileged children in this country, every year their parents face the tough decision to buy school supplies or put food on the table!

- MAS OC Backpack Campaign
Last Saturday, MAS OC volunteers (+1 MAS LA), gathered at the conference room in Garden Grove Masjid and assembled 100 high quality Backpacks. The backpacks contained the following:Erasers, Sharpeners, 4 pencils, 2 pens, a ruler, a glue stick, 1 college ruled notebook, 1 wide ruled notebook, a binder, 100 sheet filler paper, 10 pack crayon, 10 pack color pencils, 10 pack color markers, and 1 pencil case.
The backpacks were then distributed to 2 Masjid in orange county, 2 Masjid in Los Angeles county, and one Los Angeles Public school that serves both Muslims and Non-Muslims.
This campaign was started 5 weeks prior to distribution day and was led by Sr. Latanya Barlow. This campaign was actually started 3 years ago by MAS Service Corps (MSC) and the youth at MAS OC decided to pick up the project and implement it here in Orange County.
Inshallah, this campaign will be continuous and will continue indefinitely. Our goal next year inshallah is 500+ backpacks, so please remember us with your Duaas, donations, and a helping hand.
